Oya Lale Arslan has been arrested and sent to prison as part of an investigation into her social media posts and YouTube broadcasts.
Journalist Oya Lale Arslan has been arrested as part of an investigation launched against her due to her social media accounts and broadcasts on her YouTube channel.
In a statement issued by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that an investigation was being conducted into Arslan on charges of "publicly disseminating misleading information" and "making propaganda for a terrorist organization."
It was reported that Arslan, who was detained upon the instructions of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, had her home searched and her digital materials seized.
After her procedures at the police station, Arslan was referred to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and was brought before the Criminal Court of Peace following her statement to the prosecutor. The court issued an arrest warrant for Arslan.
The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that the investigation is ongoing. It had been noted that Arslan was targeted on social media by individuals and accounts close to the government following a program on her YouTube channel where she hosted journalist Erk Acarer.
