İsmail Özdemir, MHP Deputy Chairman responsible for Media, Communication and Digital Platforms, has issued a call to the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) regarding the broadcasting licenses of Halk TV and Sözcü TV.
In a statement posted on his X account, Özdemir targeted the broadcasting policies of the two television channels.
Claiming that incumbent ministers and the executive branch are being targeted with "slander and lies," Özdemir argued that this cannot be considered within the scope of press freedom.
MHP's Özdemir alleged that the owners of the channels are located abroad and asserted that their broadcasts target Turkey's national security and social peace.
It has become essential for RTÜK to reconsider the licenses of the relevant broadcasting organizations (Halk TV, SZC TV) as soon as possible, using the authority granted to it by the constitution.
Özdemir's statement comes at a time when RTÜK sanctions against opposition media outlets and debates over their licenses are on the agenda.
