RTÜK imposes fines on Halk TV and TELE 1!

At today's meeting of the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), fines were imposed on Halk TV and TELE 1.

RTÜK member Tuncay Keser, elected from the CHP quota, argued that RTÜK is protecting the company Taşyapı. Keser said, 'RTÜK has become a shield for Taşyapı. Ignoring the remarks of Taşyapı owner Emrullah Turanlı calling Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Şişli Municipality officials “members of an organization, members of a gang,” RTÜK fined Halk TV upon the company's complaint. Two sanctions were applied to Halk TV, and one to Tele 1,' he said.

FINE FOLLOWING COMPLAINT

Halk TV was issued a 3 percent administrative fine on the grounds that comments made regarding Taşyapı's projects on the program “Açıkça” violated the rule that “news cannot be broadcast before its accuracy is verified.” The phrase “this company, which is the owner of the dagger plunged into the heart of Şişli,” used in the program, was deemed to have exceeded the limits of criticism.

In the “Neden Sonuç” program, İbrahim Kahveci's remarks, “This government does not like science, it does not like positive science” and “There is no quality left in universities, you are training doctors who have never seen a cadaver,” led to a 3 percent administrative fine on the grounds that the principle that news cannot be broadcast before its accuracy is verified was violated.

TELE 1 was issued a 3 percent administrative fine on the grounds that presenter Musa Özuğurlu's assessments regarding RTÜK and the distribution of advertisements by public banks “exceeded the limits of criticism and humiliated the institutions.”

RTÜK also imposed administrative fines on Serhat TV for failing to comply with teleshopping broadcast duration rules, and on YILDIZ EN for gaining unfair profit, due to violations of the relevant articles of Law No. 6112.
