Sözcü TV received another penalty during its 10-day ban

Sözcü TV resumed broadcasting following the 10-day blackout period that began on July 9 by the decision of the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK).

The channel's Editor-in-Chief, Özgür Çakmakcı, announced that they received another penalty during this period.

RTÜK had imposed a 10-day blackout penalty on Sözcü TV on March 27. This penalty, which was initially planned to be implemented on June 1, was postponed after the court issued a stay of execution on May 30.

However, on July 3, the Ankara 7th Administrative Court lifted this decision, and the channel was blacked out on July 9.

With the resumption of broadcasts, Çakmakcı stated that a new penalty was imposed on the channel on the final day of the shutdown process.

Çakmakcı stated that he could not disclose the details of this new penalty, but that it was related to the criticism of a 2004 speech by President Tayyip Erdoğan.

Sözcü TV continues its broadcasts from where it left off after the completion of the penalty process.
