Swedish journalist detained in Istanbul... Turkey is on the agenda in Sweden

Dagens ETC newspaper freelance reporter Joakim Medin has been detained in Istanbul. The newspaper's Editor-in-Chief Andreas Gustavsson announced that Medin was taken into custody by authorities shortly after entering Turkey.

Gustavsson stated that after arriving in Istanbul, Medin sent him a message saying, 'They are taking me for questioning.' The newspaper's management announced that they have contacted the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and consulate officials in Istanbul.

According to a report by the Swedish broadcaster SVT, Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard said in a statement regarding the matter, 'We take the restriction of journalists' freedoms seriously under all circumstances.' The minister noted that the Consulate General in Istanbul is in contact with local authorities.

Medin is known to be an experienced journalist who has been working on Turkey for many years. The management of Dagens ETC stated that they are closely following developments regarding their colleague's situation.

There has been no official statement from Turkish authorities regarding the matter yet. The Istanbul Police Department stated that they cannot share details as the investigation is ongoing.
