Turkey continues to decline in press freedom index

The ranking of Turkey in this year's World Press Freedom Index, published annually by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), has increased concerns regarding press freedom.

Turkey ranked 159th out of 180 countries, once again highlighting the serious problems it faces in terms of press freedom.

RSF's Turkey representative Erol Önderoğlu, while evaluating the situation, stated, "The danger we are facing is the uniformity of voices in the media." Önderoğlu noted that the pressures on media organizations and censorship practices prevent diverse voices from being heard.

The World Press Freedom Index ranks countries by evaluating the working conditions of journalists, pressures on the media, and the state of freedom of expression. Turkey's ranking this year clearly demonstrates the difficulties faced by journalists in the country and the regression in the field of press freedom.

While it is observed that the problems of press freedom in Turkey carry serious risks in terms of democratic values and freedom of expression, Turkey's image in the international arena is also being negatively affected.
