Turkish Journalists Association to hold Independent Journalism Conference

The Turkish Journalists Association will hold the 9th edition of its 'Being a Journalist, Remaining a Journalist' events with an Independent Journalism Conference to be held at the Burhan Felek Conference Hall on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

Turkish Journalists Association to hold Independent Journalism Conference

The Independent Journalism Conference will begin with opening speeches by Turkish Journalists Association President Vahap Munyar and Turkish Philosophical Society President İoanna Kuçuradi. The conference, which will take place between 10:00 and 17:00, will address important topics in five main sessions. Session topics include press and freedom of expression in Turkey, digital transformation in journalism, the effects of digitalization on journalism, the importance of specialization in journalism, and organization and solidarity in journalism.

THERE WILL BE 5 SESSIONS

In the first session, the topic of press and freedom of expression in Turkey will be discussed. In this session, moderated by TJA Secretary General Sibel Güneş, Koç University Faculty of Law Lecturer Prof. Dr. Bertil Emrah Oder, Turkish Journalists Association Legal Advisor Attorney Gökhan Küçük, and European Centre for Press and Media Freedom Media Freedom Monitoring Expert Gürkan Özturan will share their views.

In the second session, digital transformation in journalism will be examined. In the session to be moderated by TJA Board Member Göksel Göksu, Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication Lecturer Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan, European Federation of Economic Journalists Executive Board Member Hakan Güldağ, and Google Turkey Corporate Communications Director Sırma Süren will participate as speakers.

In the third session, the effects of the digitalization of journalism will be addressed. In the session moderated by TJA Vice President Doğan Şentürk, Galatasaray University Faculty of Communication Lecturer Prof. Dr. Ceren Sözeri, T24 Internet Newspaper General Coordinator Sertuğ Çiçek, and Communication Academician Prof. Dr. Yasemin İnceoğlu will share their ideas.

The fourth session, which will cover specialization in journalism, will be moderated by TJA Vice President İhsan Yılmaz. Murat Yetkin (www.yetkinreport.com), Pınar Aktaş (Milliyet Newspaper Managing Editor), Handan Sema Ceylan (Ekonomi Newspaper Managing Editor),

Mesude Demir (Diken News Website Health Reporter) will share their views.

In the fifth session, the topic of organization and solidarity in journalism will be discussed. The session will be moderated by TJA Board Member Uğur Güç. The speakers for this session will be Turkish Journalists Union Istanbul Branch President Özgür Deniz Kaya, DİSK Press-Work General President Turgut Dedeoğlu, and Contemporary Journalists Association General President Kıvanç El.
