The Board of Directors of the Journalists Association of Turkey visited journalist Merdan Yanardağ, who is being held at the Marmara Closed Penal Execution Institution in Silivri. The visit took place on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
The delegation included Journalists Association of Turkey President Vahap Munyar, Secretary General Sibel Güneş, Deputy Secretary General Uğur Güç, and Board members Göksel Göksu, Pınar Aktaş, and Zeynel Lüle.
YANARDAĞ WAS ARRESTED ON OCTOBER 27, 2025
Tele 1 Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardağ was arrested on October 27, 2025, on charges of "political espionage" alongside Ekrem İmamoğlu and Necati Özkan as part of an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
As part of the investigation, a trustee was also appointed to ABC Radyo Televizyon ve Dijital Yayıncılık A.Ş., the owner of Tele 1. Following the trustee's assumption of office, a total of 40 journalists were dismissed from Tele 1's offices in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir.
