A new era begins for driver's licenses

In a meeting with media representatives, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya introduced a legislative proposal currently on the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) aimed at increasing traffic fines. Yerlikaya stated that this regulation was prepared to prevent accidents and reduce fatalities. He expressed that they aim to increase drivers' compliance with traffic rules through these new regulations.

Drawing attention to the importance of deterrence in the development of traffic culture, Yerlikaya said, "Deterrence is one of the cornerstones of traffic safety. An effective penalty system increases drivers' compliance with rules and improves social awareness."

SIGNAL OF CHANGES IN DRIVING SCHOOLS

Reminding that driving schools are under the administration of the Ministry of National Education, Minister Yerlikaya emphasized that radical changes should also be made in this area. He stated that the processes for obtaining a driver's license must be subject to stricter oversight.

NEW APPLICATIONS ON THE WAY

Minister Yerlikaya announced that they have developed two new applications to increase traffic safety. One is an application that will allow drivers to see radar locations along their routes. The other will be the 'Action Taken' (Gereği Yapıldı) application, where citizens can report negative situations they observe in traffic or their surroundings.

SIGNIFICANT INCREASES IN FINES ARE COMING 

With the new regulations, fines for traffic violations are also being increased. For example, monetary fines for those who violate traffic rules will be raised, and the periods for driver's license suspension will be extended. Additionally, a fine of 25,000 TL will be imposed on those who praise traffic rule violations on social media.

Minister Yerlikaya stated that these regulations are a proposal from the AK Party group, adding, "This legislative proposal will be passed by Parliament after further discussion and internalization with the public."
