BES announces inflation rates for civil servants

The written statement issued by BES regarding the matter is as follows:

"TÜİK announced that in October 2023, the CPI increased by 3.43 percent compared to the previous month and by 61.36 percent annually compared to the same month of the previous year. According to the results of the 'Public Employees' Inflation Basket Research' conducted by the Office Workers' Union, the BES CPI increased by 5.22 percent compared to the previous month and by 105.08 percent annually compared to the same month of the previous year.

The salary increase of 6 percent deemed appropriate by the government for public employees for the second six months has fallen 23.41 points behind the cumulative four-month CPI figure of 29.41 percent for July-October 2023, according to TÜİK's calculations. According to our union's calculations, the cumulative four-month inflation for workers for July-October 2023 in the second half of 2023 was 37.35 percent. In other words, public employees suffered an inflation loss of 31.35 percentage points in their wages in October 2023.

In this situation, regarding Food Inflation; the Public Employees' Inflation announced by our union, BES, on an annual basis was 105.08 percent, which is 43.72 points above the TÜİK inflation of 61.36 percent in October 2023. Annual Food Inflation, on the other hand, was exactly 124.60 percent, which is 52.61 points above the TÜİK figures."
