The figure for the lowest pension for 2025 has been finalized. Retirees whose base pension was below 12,500 liras had not been able to benefit from the 6-month inflation rate announced in December. Approximately 4 million retirees were waiting for the salary adjustment to be made. With the announcement by Minister of Labor and Social Security Işıkhan, the lowest pension for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees has been determined. HOW MUCH IS THE LOWEST PENSION?

Minister of Labor and Social Security Işıkhan announced that the lowest SSK and Bağ-Kur pension has been increased by 15.75 percent to 14,469 liras.

VICE PRESIDENT CEVDET YILMAZ HAD ANNOUNCED IT

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz made important statements regarding pensions. Yılmaz stated that they would work on this issue.

Expressing that they do not think it is right for salaries that remain at the minimum level to stay the same during a period when wages are rising, Yılmaz said, “We will carry out a study and a legal regulation will likely come to the agenda. After the final studies are completed, we will submit the legislative proposal together with our group. I think this regulation will take place within the month of January.”

WHAT WERE THE EXPECTATIONS?

The lowest pension was expected to be set between 14,000 and 15,000 liras. Considering the 15.75 percent increase, the possibility of the lowest pension being raised to around 14,500 liras comes to the fore. Experts state that with this regulation, all retirees will receive an increase of approximately 16 percent.

If a 20 percent increase is applied to the lowest pension, the salary will rise to 20,000 liras. A 30 percent increase would raise salaries to 15,625 liras.

HOW IS THE LOWEST PENSION ADJUSTED?

The 6-month inflation increase is applied to the base pension. As of July, the lowest pension had been set at 12,500 liras. Despite the inflation increase, salaries below this figure were topped up to 12,500 liras. According to current data, 3 million 703 thousand 180 people receive the lowest pension.

For the lowest pension to be increased, a regulation must be made in Parliament. The figure determined by the economic management is turned into a legislative proposal and submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Therefore, the inflation-based increase rate does not affect the lowest pension.
