Holiday toll announced: 400,000 people fined

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya shared the results of the traffic inspections carried out by police and gendarmerie teams throughout the holiday period in a statement made via social media.

Stating that 3,647,742 vehicles were inspected between June 5 and June 12, Yerlikaya noted that during this period, 403,049 drivers were processed for various violations.

Yerlikaya stated that since the beginning of the year, 102,725 drivers were identified driving under the influence of alcohol and their licenses were temporarily confiscated, adding, "According to the Highway Traffic Law No. 2918, it is prohibited to drive with a blood alcohol level above 0.50 promille in private vehicles and above 0.20 promille in other vehicles."

During the inspections, fines were issued to 110,222 drivers for speeding, 29,762 vehicles for missing periodic inspections, 23,141 individuals for not wearing seatbelts, and 14,316 individuals for driving without a license. Additionally, 7,411 vehicles lacking mandatory liability insurance were also affected by the inspections. Yerlikaya emphasized the importance of traffic safety, stating, "Journeys are meant to reunite you with your loved ones, not to separate you from them."
