'Imam in school, teacher on the street': Second day of ÇEDES protest

The second day of the ÇEDES protest, initiated by the CHP Bornova District Organization in response to the assignment of imams, muezzins, Quran course instructors, and preachers to certain schools in İzmir, has concluded.

Unappointed teachers and parents participating in the protest expressed their reaction to the practice.

Nevin Keskin, an unappointed teacher and a parent, stated, “I believe that imams who discriminate and marginalize have no place in schools. Right now, as a teacher, I am on the street, but the imams are in the school.”

The 'ÇEDES protest' launched by the CHP Bornova District Organization against the assignment of imams, muezzins, preachers, and Quran course instructors to some schools in İzmir within the scope of the ÇEDES project continues on its second day.

While the protest held in front of the Bornova District Directorate of National Education received support from the CHP Buca, Çeşme, and Karaburun organizations, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki also joined the protest.

Mayor Eşki and the parents participating in the protest expressed their opposition to the ÇEDES program and called for 'secular and democratic education'.
