Memur-Sen President's statement on the arbitration board: 'We do not trust it'
The crisis is deepening in the collective bargaining process affecting 6.5 million civil servants and civil servant retirees. Memur-Sen President Ali Yalçın announced that they will not apply to the Arbitration Board.
Memur-Sen President Ali Yalçın spoke about the deadlock in the civil servant salary increase process regarding the Arbitration Board.
In his statement regarding the 8th Term Collective Bargaining negotiations, which concern civil servants and civil servant retirees, Yalçın gave the message, "We will not apply to the Arbitration Board; the initiative lies with the government."
Stating, "We do not trust the Arbitration Board. We did our best to achieve results," Yalçın emphasized that their efforts to complete the process would continue, adding, "We still have three days, our struggle will continue."
The process in the salary negotiations for 6.5 million civil servants and civil servant retirees had stalled, and the government's final offer was not accepted by the unions. Yalçın announced that they would not apply to the Arbitration Board and that they had no confidence in the arbitration process:
"There is an arbitration process ahead of us. Neither we nor the public officials have the slightest bit of faith or trust in the arbitrator. Because the attitudes of those who acted as arbitrators in the past, which were far from fairness, their unfair decisions, and their lack of will have turned the arbitrators from being a Public Officials Arbitration Board into an arbitrator for the public employer."
WHAT IS THE ARBITRATION BOARD?
The Arbitration Board consists of 11 members, and 6 of these members are appointed by the President. 4 members of the board are from Memur-Sen, one is from Kamu-Sen, and the other member is selected by the President from among academics nominated by Memur-Sen. Thus, the government's weight on the board is clearly visible.
THE IMPORTANCE AND PROCESS OF THE ARBITRATION BOARD'S DECISION
The decision to be made by the Arbitration Board will be final and will have the force of a collective agreement. The decision is expected to be announced within 5 days after the application.
