Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to import 600,000 head of cattle
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will import 600,000 head of feeder cattle for 2024. The imports will be carried out by the Meat and Milk Board (ESK) and the Central Union of Red Meat Producers of Turkey. The ESK will also determine the sale price of the feeder cattle.
The General Directorate of Livestock of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has published the import instructions and technical criteria regarding the 2024 feeder cattle imports. Accordingly, a total of 600,000 head of feeder cattle will be imported in three periods in 2024.
The actual importation will be carried out by the ESK in accordance with the specified rules. The sale price of the imported feeder cattle will be determined by the Meat and Milk Board.
APPLICATIONS WILL BE EVALUATED BY THE MEAT AND MILK BOARD
Enterprises with a capacity of 200 animals will submit their applications to the Central Union of Red Meat Producers of Turkey, and the applications will be evaluated by the Meat and Milk Board. The list of permits determined as a result of the evaluation will be sent to the General Directorate of Livestock at the end of each period.
QUOTA SET FOR IMPORTS
While 150,000 head of feeder cattle import permits are granted to enterprises with a feedlot capacity of under 200 head, enterprises with a feedlot capacity of under 200 head will be granted a maximum of 40 head of feeder cattle import permits within the year.
In the event of any disease, mandatory slaughter, or death observed in animals that have completed the import process and have been "nationalized," all responsibility will belong to the breeder, and no compensation will be paid. The documents requested from enterprises applying for cattle imports and the specified deadlines will be published on the official website of the ESK. Enterprises permitted to import will be announced in the permit list published by the General Directorate of Livestock.
If breeders fail to submit the documents requested by the Meat and Milk Board and the General Directorate of Food and Control within the specified time, or if their documents are not deemed appropriate, their feeder cattle permits will be considered invalid.
