Ministry of Trade fines social media advertisements: 7 million TL penalty for 70 businesses

The Ministry of Trade has implemented new sanctions as part of its inspections regarding real estate and vehicle advertisements published on social media platforms. The Ministry issued a total of 7 million TL in administrative fines to 70 real estate and auto dealership businesses found to have posted advertisements in violation of regulations on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.

According to the Ministry's statement, the number of businesses sanctioned as a result of inspections in this area has risen to 152 to date. The total amount of administrative fines imposed on these businesses has reached 15.2 million TL.

The inspections examined not only the businesses posting the advertisements but also the obligations of the social media platforms themselves. Meta Platforms İstanbul Bilişim Hizmetleri Limited Şirketi was fined 20 million TL, and TikTok İstanbul Dijital Medya ve Reklam Limited Şirketi was fined 4 million TL for failing to integrate with the EİDS (Electronic Advertisement Verification System) and failing to fulfill identity and authorization verification obligations.

According to Ministry data, the total administrative fine imposed on Meta Platforms İstanbul Bilişim Hizmetleri Limited Şirketi within this scope has risen to 36.2 million TL.

The statement also highlighted that it is mandatory to include price information in real estate and vehicle advertisements published on social media platforms. The Ministry assesses that the absence of price information can lead to consumer grievances.
