Murat Kurum had showered it with praise: That company in Adıyaman is not paying workers' wages

Approximately 100 workers employed at the housing project in Adıyaman İndere, which was initiated by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change following the February 6 earthquakes and is being carried out by Sur Yapı, decided to stop work this morning because they have not received their salaries for April and May.

The construction unions İnşaat-İş, Dev Yapı-İş, and İyi-Sen contacted the subcontractor firm officials regarding the non-payment of wages. However, the firm stated that it had gone bankrupt and could not make the payments. Following this development, the workers initiated a work stoppage to seek their rights.

REACTION FROM UNIONS: "SUR YAPI CANNOT ESCAPE RESPONSIBILITY"

İnşaat-İş Union Organizing Secretary Yunus Özgür stated in his announcement that the primary party responsible is not the subcontractor, but Sur Yapı. Özgür said, "Since it is Saturday, we have not been able to reach them yet. However, the protest will continue. We will meet with Sur Yapı officials on Monday."

WAGE CRISIS IS WIDESPREAD IN EARTHQUAKE REGIONS

Yunus Özgür stated that similar problems are being experienced outside of Adıyaman as well. Emphasizing that workers have not been paid for months, Özgür noted that unsafe working conditions are common at construction sites.

MINISTER KURUM HAD SHOWERED IT WITH PRAISE

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum had previously cited the project in Adıyaman İndere as an example, saying, "We are in the field in our 11 provinces, at 159 construction sites, with 153 thousand workers. This is Turkey's largest construction site with an area of 5 million square meters. We are working day and night for 9 thousand 603 residences in Adıyaman İndere." However, shortly after these statements, workers employed at the same construction site were forced to stop work due to their unpaid wages.
