New era in traffic regulations: License revocations on the agenda

The increase in traffic accidents in Turkey has led the government to implement new regulations in this area. The 34-article Traffic Action Plan, which was submitted to Parliament in May and sparked debate, had been sent back to the commission due to disagreements. Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya shared details regarding the regulations, which will be resubmitted to Parliament in October.

According to the new regulations, the licenses of drivers who commit a certain number of red light violations within a year will be revoked. Minister Yerlikaya stated, "We are increasing the penalty for running a red light. A fine of 5 thousand lira will be applied for the first violation, 10 thousand for the second, and 15 thousand for the third, along with a 30-day license suspension. Upon the sixth violation, the license will be revoked and an 80 thousand lira fine will be issued." Additionally, these drivers will be sent for an eye examination.

Other articles of the regulation include strict prohibitions against persistently following another vehicle in traffic and attempting to get out of the vehicle to initiate an attack or argument. License revocation and administrative sanctions will be applied for such violations.

Penalties are also being increased for drivers who tamper with their license plates. Drivers who make changes that prevent the plate from being read will be issued an administrative fine, and these vehicles will be banned from traffic. The drivers' licenses will be temporarily confiscated.

These regulations aim to increase traffic safety and deter violations.
