New midnight appointment decrees from Erdoğan: Police chiefs of 23 provinces and gendarmerie commanders of 41 provinces changed

Appointments regarding the General Directorate of Security, the Gendarmerie General Command, and the Coast Guard Command have been published in the Official Gazette.

New midnight appointment decrees from Erdoğan: Police chiefs of 23 provinces and gendarmerie commanders of 41 provinces changed

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan signed a decree according to which the Director General of Security, Erol Ayyıldız, has been appointed as the Governor of Bursa, while the current Governor of Bursa, Mahmut Demirtaş, has been appointed in his place.

Gendarmerie General Commander General Arif Çetin has been retired due to age limits, effective September 1, and has been replaced by General Ali Çardakcı.

With the decree, the police chiefs of 23 provinces were changed, and the police chiefs of 16 of these provinces were reassigned to the General Directorate of Security.

The appointments made to police departments with the decree are as follows:

RANK AND APPOINTMENT DECISIONS IN THE GENDARMERIE

With the decree, 6 generals were promoted to the next rank and 16 colonels were promoted to the rank of general in the Gendarmerie General Command, effective August 30.

Furthermore, the gendarmerie commanders of 41 provinces were changed, including İzmir, Kahramanmaraş, Bursa, Manisa, Muğla, Mardin, Siirt, Bitlis, Erzurum, Şırnak, Tunceli, Ağrı, Trabzon, Nevşehir, Batman, Ardahan, Bayburt, Bartın, Sinop, Yalova, Yozgat, Edirne, Kırşehir, Malatya, Kars, Sivas, Zonguldak, Elazığ, Isparta, Çanakkale, Burdur, Kütahya, Amasya, Bolu, Osmaniye, Kırıkkale, Çankırı, Ordu, Karaman, Muş, and Düzce.

COAST GUARD COMMANDER KENDİR PROMOTED

In the Coast Guard Command, effective August 30, Coast Guard Commander Rear Admiral Ahmet Kendir was promoted to Vice Admiral, Deputy Coast Guard Commander Commodore Cengiz Ünver was promoted to Rear Admiral, and Colonel Ertuğrul Şerbetçi was promoted to Commodore.

With the decree, it was decided that Vice Admiral Ahmet Kendir and Rear Admiral Cengiz Ünver would continue in their current positions, while Coast Guard Aegean Sea Regional Commander Commodore Serkan Tezel was appointed to the Coast Guard Marmara and Straits Regional Command; and Coast Guard Marmara and Straits Regional Commander Commodore Tayfun Paşaoğlu was appointed to the Coast Guard Aegean Sea Regional Command.

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya shared the following on his social media account regarding the appointments:

"The 2024 promotion, appointment, and retirement decree for the Gendarmerie General Command, the General Directorate of Security, and the Coast Guard Command has been published. Appointments have been made for generals and colonels of the Gendarmerie General Command, police chiefs of the General Directorate of Security, and admirals and colonels of the Coast Guard Command. I wish our appointed command staff and police chiefs great success in their new duties."
