PTT puts some of its real estate worth 2.2 billion TL up for sale: Union reacts

PTT putting more than 50 of its properties across Turkey up for sale has sparked controversy. In a statement regarding the issue, Haber-Sen, affiliated with KESK, stated, "These sales are the theft of PTT's future; public assets are being disregarded. These sales must be stopped immediately."

EMPHASIS ON "PTT IS PUBLIC PROPERTY"

The union reminded that PTT, with its 184-year history, is a common asset of the public. The statement noted that the institution has entered a serious process of collapse due to wrong policies and incompetent management implemented in recent years.

"PTT has been reduced to a state where it struggles to even pay its employees' salaries today. The most painful indicator of this situation is the sale of public-owned real estate one by one. It is not normal for PTT to put more than 50 properties up for sale. The value of these properties has exceeded 2.2 billion TL," the statement said, drawing attention to the fact that the sales process is not transparent.

"PTT DID NOT COLLAPSE, IT WAS BROUGHT DOWN"

Haber-Sen attributed the financial situation PTT has fallen into to poor management and political cronyism. The statement said, "These sales mean the theft of PTT's future and the disregard for public assets. PTT did not collapse, it was brought down. Appointments made based on criteria such as partisanship and union affiliation have made the institution unmanageable."

The list of properties put up for sale was also presented to the public. Information was shared that the total value of the plots and buildings in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Diyarbakır, Afyonkarahisar, Yozgat, Kocaeli, and many other cities exceeds 2 billion 203 million TL.

"OUR FUTURE IS IN DANGER"

The union explained its demands with the following points:

"The sale of PTT's real estate, which is public property, must be stopped immediately.

Merit must be the basis for management, and political appointments must be ended.

PTT's financial statement must be disclosed transparently and opened to public scrutiny."

At the end of the statement, it was said, "Every individual living in these lands must protect the future of PTT. Let us not forget: PTT belongs to the people, it cannot be sold."
