Statement from the DMM regarding forest fires

The DMM stated that some social media posts included claims that the forest fires in İzmir, Manisa, and Hatay were claimed by a group linked to the PKK. The statement emphasized that such content is created using old and out-of-context information, is spread intentionally, and serves as an example of disinformation.

The statement expressed that creating provocations through forest fires and targeting state institutions is unacceptable. Furthermore, it was noted that the images and texts presented as the source of these claims were taken from an illegal website dated October 10, 2020, and have no connection to the current fires. It was also announced that the state maintains a zero-tolerance policy in the fight against terrorism and is meticulously investigating all possibilities of sabotage.

The DMM called on citizens to question the source of information they encounter on social media, to verify the date and context of shared images, and to evaluate information outside of official statements with caution.
