Statement from the EGM on the strike: 'Claims that police will take action do not reflect the truth'

The General Directorate of Security (EGM) has issued a statement regarding the decision to strike announced by the Police Organization Union for September 28. The statement noted that claims appearing on some social media platforms and news sites that "police will go on strike" do not reflect the truth.

In the official statement from the EGM, it was stated that "the members of the union that decided to strike on September 28, 2026, consist of civilian personnel, and the claims that our police officers will go on strike do not reflect the truth."

The controversy arose after the Police Organization Union announced a nationwide strike decision following recent suicides among police personnel and issues regarding their personal rights.

In its statement, the union noted that seven police personnel had ended their lives in just the last five days; it also referenced the suicide of a retired police officer in front of the Constitutional Court, emphasizing that the current situation cannot be ignored.

The union is demanding action on issues such as harsh working conditions, allegations of mobbing, expectations for the 3600 additional indicator, problems within the Auxiliary Services Class, and the failure to implement a Police Professional Law. The union leadership argues that it made the decision to strike for the sake of "the honor of the organization, the right to life of its members, and their labor."
