TCDD's 2023 loss revealed: Increased by 70 percent in one year

According to the 2023 financial report of the Republic of Türkiye State Railways (TCDD), the administration's loss increased by 70 percent in 2023.

TCDD's 2023 loss revealed: Increased by 70 percent in one year

TCDD's net period loss, which was 6 billion 386 million 57 thousand TL in 2022, saw an increase of 5 billion 105 million 781 thousand TL as of December 31, 2023. The institutional loss recorded at the end of 2023 exceeded the projected amount by 124 percent.

LOSS IS RACING TOWARD A RECORD

According to the report by Mustafa Bildircin from BirGün, a total revenue of 5 billion 332 million 482 thousand TL was generated from sales in 2023. The cost of these sales to the institution was reported as 11 billion 842 million 713 thousand TL. TCDD recorded the loss resulting from sales in its financial records as 6 billion 510 million 231 thousand TL. The institution's net period loss, which was 6 billion 386 million 57 thousand TL in 2022, rose to 11 billion 491 million 838 thousand TL in 2023.

DEBT IS INCREASING EXPONENTIALLY

A striking increase was also recorded in the institution's financial and commercial debts. The financial debts of the TCDD General Directorate, which were 2 billion 955 million 470 thousand TL in 2022, rose to 3 billion 904 million 272 thousand TL in 2023. A similar increase occurred in commercial debts. TCDD's commercial debts, which were 5 billion 953 million 359 thousand TL in 2022, amounted to 8 billion 535 million 821 thousand TL in 2023.

The change in TCDD's losses, which amounted to 11.4 billion TL in 2023, by year is as follows:

• 2018: 2 billion 557 million TL

• 2019: 2 billion 546 million TL

• 2020: 3 billion 866 million TL

• 2021: 4 billion 34 million TL

• 2022: 6 billion 386 million TL
