According to a new study conducted by DE-CIX, the proportion of those who do not want to live in regions in Turkey without reliable and high-speed internet infrastructure has reached 45%.
The research revealed that a reliable and high-speed internet connection is becoming an increasingly critical factor in housing preferences. Nearly 60% of participants consider a reliable and high-speed internet connection an important criterion in their housing choices.
INTERNET INFRASTRUCTURE PLAYS A KEY ROLE IN HOUSING SELECTION
The research conducted by DE-CIX showed that internet infrastructure is taking on an increasingly important place in housing preferences in Turkey. According to the research results, although sufficient space, good public transport connections, and affordable housing are generally at the forefront when choosing a living space, for nearly 60%, fast and reliable internet stands out as one of the most important factors.
LACK OF INTERNET AFFECTS THE DECISION TO MOVE
More than 70% of the participants in the study stated that they start considering moving when they see significant deficiencies related to the area they live in.
In particular, the rate of those who state that they cannot continue to live in a region without fast and reliable internet access is 45%. This rate is even higher among young adults between the ages of 25-34. This situation is reshaping the place of digital infrastructure in the quality of life of individuals.
CONNECTIVITY ISSUES AFFECT DAILY LIFE
The research reveals that approximately 30% of participants frequently experience problems with their current internet connections.
The regions where the most problems are experienced were identified as Southeastern Anatolia and Eastern Marmara.
In addition, 6% of the participants stated that they experience problems with the internet every day.
INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENTS ARE NEEDED
Nearly half of the participants think that fiber internet infrastructure should be expanded to a wider area.
In particular, making mobile and satellite internet more widespread in rural areas stands out as an important solution for users.
BASIC USE OF THE INTERNET: EDUCATION AND ENTERTAINMENT
Participants use the internet most for the purpose of obtaining information and learning.
Internet usage for entertainment and business purposes is also among the other prominent areas.
The role of the internet in education and obtaining information has more importance, especially for participants between the ages of 45-55. For participants in this age group, the most important area of internet usage was defined as obtaining information and learning.
