A new era in Apple's OLED screen supply: BOE sidelined, orders shift to Samsung and LG
According to industry sources, Apple has excluded BOE from its OLED screen orders following quality issues, shifting its focus to Samsung Display and LG Display.
It has been claimed that Apple is making a significant change to its screen supply chain for its new devices. According to information based on industry sources, the company has directed its OLED screen orders for the upcoming period to South Korea-based Samsung Display and LG Display.
Allegedly, Chinese panel manufacturer BOE has been sidelined from Apple's new orders following issues encountered during quality tests. It is stated that quality problems, particularly those reported last year with iPhone 17 Pro panels, were influential in the company's decision to re-evaluate its supplier preferences.
In the new landscape, it is reported that Samsung Display will take the lead in screen production for the iPad mini, MacBook Pro, and the long-rumored foldable iPhone. Meanwhile, it is noted that LG Display will produce 34 million units specifically for the Apple Watch Series 12.
It is also noted that the order for approximately 90 million screens planned for Apple's flagship iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models will be divided between Samsung Display and LG Display.
This change is viewed as a move by Apple to strengthen quality control and reduce production risks. However, concentrating orders largely on two South Korean manufacturers could increase both Apple's regional dependency in screen supply and the commercial reliance of Samsung Display and LG Display on Apple.
