Ads have arrived on Amazon Prime Video! Will users in Turkey be affected?

Amazon had previously announced that it would add advertisements to its Prime Video service, and these ads began to be integrated into the platform as of January 29. An additional fee will be required to remove the ads, and this new system will be valid in specific countries for the time being.

Prime Video has been on the agenda for a long time with its plans to show advertisements as an online series and movie platform. Statements made in September revealed that this change would take place in 2024.

As of today, Amazon has begun adding advertisements to the Prime Video platform. However, an additional fee will be required to remove the ads. In a statement made last month, it was expressed that Amazon "aims to show significantly fewer ads compared to traditional TV and other online platforms." This indicates that the density of ads on Prime Video will not be like that on other channels such as YouTube. Previous claims had suggested that there could be 4 minutes of ads per hour on Prime Video.

Users who benefit from the Prime Video service through an Amazon Prime membership will have to pay an additional fee for an ad-free experience. While the price of a Prime membership in Turkey is 39 TL, this membership is 14.99 dollars in the US. In the US, a Prime Video-only subscription is also offered for 8.99 dollars. When the ad-showing process officially begins, all Amazon Prime subscribers will become ad-supported Prime Video subscribers. US users who do not want to watch ads will pay 2.99 dollars per month.

In the statement in September, it was stated that the ad-supported period on Prime Video would first begin in the US, Canada, the UK, and Germany. The current development only covers these countries. It was announced that Prime Video subscribers in France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia would begin seeing ads later in the year. Turkey is not among these planned countries for now, but it is expected that ads will come to Turkey in the future.
