An AirDrop-like feature is coming to WhatsApp
WhatsApp is preparing an AirDrop-like feature that will allow its users to easily share files between devices.
Meta continues to update WhatsApp without slowing down. As reported by WABetaInfo, the company is working on a new AirDrop-like update that will allow users to share files with nearby devices.
WhatsApp's new feature is currently in the development stage, so while we do not know when it will be released, we do know how it will work. First, users need to shake their devices to activate a request and, of course, be close to the other person. Then, the recipient needs to open WhatsApp and shake their device in the same way to see and accept the sharing request. However, it is not yet clear how close the phones need to be. Looking at WhatsApp's security measures, end-to-end encryption is expected to be present for these files, just as it is for text messages. The platform will also keep phone numbers private when users share files with people outside of their contacts.
Although most of these features resemble AirDrop, it is not yet clear whether files will be automatically downloaded to the user's gallery or if it will work only via Bluetooth. Currently, WhatsApp allows 100 photos to be sent at once via regular messaging, so we will have to wait and see how this feature will differ.
