Ankara City Council hosts 'Artificial Intelligence and Journalism' panel: The future of media discussed

The Ankara City Council (AKK) Media Working Group, in cooperation with the Turkish Internet Media Association (TİMBİR), organized a panel titled "Artificial Intelligence and Journalism." The panel examined the effects of artificial intelligence on the media sector and the process of digital transformation.

Leading journalists of the Ankara media, Orhan Kemal Erkılıç (PanHaber), Eray Görgülü (Ekol TV), Saadet Burcu Akkaya (SBA TekMedya), and Murat Karakülah (Sonsöz Gazetesi), shared their experiences ranging from traditional journalism to the digital age.

In his speech, AKK Vice President and TİMBİR President Dr. Süleyman Basa emphasized that "Internet journalism is the greatest element of our future," while AKK Executive Board Member Ömer Şan stated, "We can do much more original work with our own intelligence, not artificial intelligence."

The highlights of the panel were as follows:

•Artificial intelligence offers opportunities but trust is limited: Eray Görgülü drew attention to the risk of manipulation despite the possibilities offered by the technology.

•Journalism is transforming with data and coding knowledge: Saadet Burcu Akkaya said that with artificial intelligence, journalism has gone beyond just conveying information.

•The soul of the news is in human intelligence: Murat Karakülah drew attention to the importance of the human touch, saying, "Artificial intelligence can write news, but it cannot give it a soul."

The panel was held at the Ankara City Council building with intense interest from media professionals and academics. This meeting, where the boundaries between artificial intelligence and journalism were redefined, also shed light on the ethical and professional problems of the digital age.
