Apple announces! Safari requirement is being lifted

A document prepared by Apple to comply with EU laws indicates that the Safari requirement may be lifted.

The European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA), which is in effect regarding competition, continues to impact Apple. This law previously led Apple to switch from Lightning to Type-C on iPhones and to allow the installation of apps from third-party sources on iOS.

Apple recently published a document demonstrating that they will comply with this law from the EU. The company stated that it is working on an application that will make it easier to switch from iPhone to Android and that it is also planning changes in the browser space.

iPhone users within the EU borders will be able to remove the Safari browser from their devices by the end of 2024. During this process, solutions are being developed to allow data accumulated in Safari to be transferred to different applications. The same will apply to importing data from different browsers.

Apple now allows pre-installed applications to be removed and has begun supporting alternative internet browsers. However, users will still be encouraged to prefer Safari as their default browser. Additionally, different internet browsers can be selected as default, but due to security concerns, Apple will place extra importance on the security of these alternative browsers.

There are some methods that provide data transfer from iOS to Android and vice versa, but they are not complete and can be challenging for users. For this reason, Apple is working on a new application compatible with the DMA. This application will be user-friendly and will facilitate the transition process from iPhone to Android.

According to Apple's statement, the new application will be released in 2025. However, it is not yet clear whether the application will be offered only to EU countries or on a global scale.
