Apple cancels HomePod beta update
Apple had updated its HomePod software with an update released yesterday. HomePod 18.1 beta 2 was released without introducing any new features. However, the update was pulled today. The reason for this was that some users reported their devices became unusable after the update.
Although a new feature has not come to HomePod software for a long time, Apple continues to make updates for reasons such as security and compatibility. One of these updates was the HomePod 18.1 beta. Following the update, the 22J5552d build has been removed from use. Some users were complaining that their HomePod devices turned into bricks after this update.
18.1 beta 1 will be available for download again
Due to the issue that emerged in HomePod 18.1 beta 2, this update has been cancelled. Users who installed the update will be able to download and install the 18.1 beta 1 version again. Considering that no new features were added, there is currently no advantage to switching to the beta 2 version.
In the event that HomePod devices become unusable, it is possible to update the software via the special port at the bottom of the device. Additionally, since HomePod uses the tvOS operating system, updates can also be performed by following specific steps via wireless connection. However, Apple has not yet officially confirmed these alternative solution methods, and there is a risk that these procedures may void the device's warranty.
