Apple has introduced its new visual identity and animated logo design for Apple Music. The new logo, inspired by sound waves, is positioned as part of the platform's goal to visually highlight the music experience.
The new design features a musical note that resembles waves spreading across the surface of water. As part of the visual identity, which is prepared in line with Apple's "Liquid Glass" interface philosophy, it is stated that the Apple Music app icon will also transition to black-and-white colors.
One of the striking aspects of the logo is that it was created entirely with practical effects. During the design process, the logo was etched onto the glass base of a small tank; the tank was filled with mineral oil and a transparent lid was placed on top. Then, waves were created on the oil surface using specific sound frequencies, and the resulting images were recorded.
The project was developed in collaboration with music producer Fred Again and NEST Acoustics, in addition to Apple. The presentation emphasized that the core idea was to transform sound into a visual experience and reflect the impact of music with an animated image.
The new animated logo is planned to be used at the beginning of video content on Apple Music, such as music videos and concert recordings. Thus, the platform's visual identity will become more prominent not only in the app interface but also in the content experience.
The new visual identity is expected to be released with Apple's upcoming software updates. The changes are planned to arrive with the iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2 versions.
