Apple's first foldable phone, iPhone Ultra, expected to be unveiled on September 9

Apple is expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone model, publicly referred to as the "iPhone Ultra," at an event on September 9. The model is seen as the company's first move into the foldable phone market.

According to expectations, the device will feature a 19.8-centimeter internal screen that opens like a book, and a second 13.5-centimeter screen on the outer surface for classic smartphone use. The iPhone Ultra is projected to have a total of four cameras: two on the back, one inside, and one selfie camera on the front.

The new model is expected to be powered by Apple's A20 Pro processor. It is stated that this chip will operate 18 percent faster and consume 30 percent less energy compared to the previous generation A19 Pro. The A20 Pro is also planned to be used in the high-end iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models.

Leaked screen protector images have brought new claims regarding the device's design to the fore. According to these, it is rumored that the iPhone Ultra may feature right-angled corners on the left side and curved corners on the right.

While Samsung currently leads the foldable phone market, Huawei, Google, and Motorola also offer various models in this segment. Analysts assess that Apple could adapt quickly to the market due to its strong software ecosystem and large-screen experience.

According to estimates by market research firm IDC, Apple could sell more than 10 million iPhone Ultra units in its first year. The starting price of the device is expected to be between 2,200 and 2,500 euros, while higher storage options are expected to be in the 2,600 to 3,000 euro range.

The September 9 event also holds symbolic importance for Apple's management. It is stated that John Ternus, the former senior vice president of hardware engineering, will make his first public appearance as CEO following Tim Cook. The event is also expected to feature announcements for the Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra, iPad mini 8, and AirPods Pro, as well as updates for Apple TV and HomePod mini.
