Apple's Mac roadmap: M6 Pro and Max may be skipped, M7 timeline for MacBook Pro extends to 2027

It is reported that Apple's new processor plan may see the cancellation of high-end M6 variants, while OLED MacBook Pros are expected to wait until late 2027 for the M7 Pro and M7 Max.

Apple's Mac roadmap: M6 Pro and Max may be skipped, M7 timeline for MacBook Pro extends to 2027

Claims regarding the new processor schedule Apple is preparing for its Mac product family suggest that the company may prioritize the M7 architecture over high-end M6 variants. According to information shared by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple plans to allocate resources to next-generation chips that are better suited for artificial intelligence workloads.

According to this plan, while the M6 chip will begin to be used in the Mac mini, it may also appear in entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac models. However, the development of more powerful options such as the M6 Pro, M6 Max, and M6 Ultra is not expected. Thus, a direct transition from the current M5 Pro, M5 Max, and M5 Ultra series to the M7 family is on the agenda.

The processor schedule for the MacBook Pro series may be reshaped by Apple's AI-focused chip strategy.

EXPECTED TIMELINE FOR OLED MACBOOK PRO

According to the information in the report, new MacBook Pro models with OLED screens and touch capabilities will initially continue with the current M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. These models are expected to receive the M7 Pro and M7 Max processors toward the end of 2027. This means that the major leap in processors for high-end MacBook Pro users may be delayed for some time.

It is suggested that the M7 Ultra chip could be released in the first half of 2028. This timeline also weakens the possibility of a new Mac Studio being introduced within 2027. It is stated that Apple's priority in the processor transition is efficiency in artificial intelligence and intensive computational workloads, alongside more powerful graphics performance.

It is claimed that OLED-screen MacBook Pro models could transition to M7 Pro and M7 Max chips at the end of 2027.

At an event Apple is reportedly holding in Los Angeles on October 27, it is expected that OLED-screen touch-enabled MacBook Pro models and the OLED iPad mini will be introduced. It is also reported that the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 processor and new iMac models could be showcased at the same event.

It is stated that the event will be structured as a special experience for content creators rather than a classic live broadcast format. While it is noted that the company aims to show its new hardware to participants up close, it is understood that the real breakthrough in the processor roadmap will occur with the M7 series.
