Astronomers discover the largest stellar-mass black hole
Astronomers have discovered the "largest" stellar-mass black hole in the Milky Way Galaxy! This discovery, made as part of the European Space Agency's (ESA) Gaia mission, is of great significance to astronomers.
Astronomers have discovered the "largest" stellar-mass black hole in the Milky Way Galaxy, which also contains Earth.
The European Space Agency (ESA), in collaboration with researchers from University College London (UCL), identified the black hole, named "Gaia-BH3," which is 33 times more massive than the Sun.
It was stated that the black hole, which is located 2 thousand light-years from Earth, cannot be seen directly and was discovered thanks to a star "wobbling" in its orbit.
It was also noted that more black holes could be discovered in light of the data obtained from the ESA's Gaia Space Telescope.
Pasquale Panuzzo from the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) said that such a discovery could be a "once in a lifetime" event.
George Seabroke from UCL also pointed out that Gaia-BH3 is the "largest stellar-mass black hole" discovered to date, noting that the black hole holds an important place for astronomers.
Meanwhile, it was noted that around 50 supermassive black holes have been discovered or identified in the Milky Way Galaxy to date.
