A settlement was reached as part of a class-action lawsuit filed in the US in 2020, which accused Google of violating people's privacy by collecting user data even while they were browsing in Incognito mode.

According to the terms of the settlement agreement reached in the federal court in San Francisco, the company agreed to ensure that the agreement remains in effect for five years.

According to a BBC report, the data deletion process will also be valid outside the US.

In a statement, Google spokesperson Jorge Castaneda said, "We are pleased to resolve this lawsuit, which we have always believed was meritless."

Stating that the company will not pay any compensation, Castaneda added, "We are happy to delete old technical data that was never associated with an individual and was never used for any form of personalization."
