Bad news for those using Incognito mode in Chrome
It has emerged that users browsing by opening an Incognito tab in the Google Chrome browser are not browsing as privately as they thought.
Google Chrome continues to maintain its position as the most used browser in the world by an overwhelming margin. Its simple interface, speed, and functional extensions are very effective in its high popularity. At the same time, there is a button in the top right drop-down menu of Google Chrome where you can open an Incognito tab.
A LAWSUIT WAS FILED
Google has stated that it is ready to settle a class-action lawsuit filed in 2020 over the Incognito mode of its Chrome browser. The lawsuit, which emerged in the Northern District of California, accused Google of continuing to "track, collect, and identify users' browsing data in real-time" even when they had opened a new Incognito tab.
IT TURNED OUT IT WAS NOT 'PRIVATE ENOUGH'
The lawsuit, filed by Florida resident William Byatt and California residents Chasom Brown and Maria Nguyen, accused Google of violating privacy laws. It was also alleged that sites using Google Analytics or Ad Manager collected information from browsers in Incognito mode, including web page content, device data, and IP addresses.

The plaintiffs also accused Google of taking Chrome users' Incognito browsing activity and associating it with their existing user profiles. Google initially tried to have the case dismissed by pointing to the message displayed when users open Chrome's Incognito mode. This warning message informs users that their activity "might still be visible to the websites you visit."
