Behind the scenes of the crisis at Sahibinden.com: 'The dusty pages of history are full of similar mistakes by many large companies'
Access issues are being experienced at Sahibinden.com. Sahibinden issued a statement regarding the matter, saying, "Due to a technical issue we are experiencing with the firm that provides our domain name service, access to our platform is currently unavailable." Prof. Dr. Çisil Sohodol, a board member of the Artificial Intelligence and Technology Association, stated, "This incident appears as a combination of operational and managerial problems, which are the other two main lines of crisis management, beyond just communication," and added: "The dusty pages of history are full of similar mistakes by many large companies."

Access to Sahibinden.com, a platform featuring real estate, vehicle, and shopping listings, has been unavailable via both its website and application since midnight.
Prof. Dr. Çisil Sohodol, a board member of the Artificial Intelligence and Technology Association, wrote for 12punto about the crisis at the Sahibinden site and other websites that have experienced domain name crises in the past.
Here is that article:
"If true, sahibinden.com will manage to write its name in golden letters in the history of national institutional crises.
Within the categories of crises, there is a type of crisis known as "Self-inflicted crises," meaning a crisis caused by the institution/brand's own error.
In recent years, we have frequently experienced these types of crises due to reasons such as communication errors, social media content issues, and problems in leadership statements.
However, we can say that this incident appears as a combination of operational and managerial problems, which are the other two main lines of crisis management, beyond just communication. We do not know who made the mistake or how, but it is certain that they will face trouble if they cannot recover the domain that is said to have been repurchased.
We will also wait and see what happens if they are faced with a very high payment demand to recover the domain.
Sahibinden.com is certainly not the first institution to experience an 'domain name' crisis. The dusty pages of history are full of similar mistakes by many large companies."
SITES THAT EXPERIENCED DOMAIN NAME CRISES IN THE PAST:
In April 2012, the second-largest online travel site for Indian tourists, which was responsible for 30% of online travel-related transactions in India, forgot to renew its domain name. This sector, worth 370 billion Rs (5.7 billion USD), lost countless customers and also lost its partnership with the State Bank of India, which produced private travel credit cards for the company.
Regions Bank, the 22nd largest bank in the United States with more than 1,700 branches and 2,400 ATMs, forgot to renew its domain name in April 2013.
Customers lost access to online banking, online services, and the main bank website. The bank had to issue a public apology, and Web services remained down for about a week.
Microsoft forgot to renew the passport.com domain name and made headlines, especially in the Linux community, which was emerging at that time.
As if that were not bad enough, in 2003 Microsoft again forgot to renew an important domain name; this time it was a much more critical domain name that was forgotten: hotmail.co.uk!
Marketo is a marketing software company that is a giant in its industry, helping thousands of customers manage their email campaigns, lead generation forms, and other marketing activities. Marketo's 2017 domain name renewal failure came to light when customers realized that their Marketo-powered products were no longer working.
Since the company's marketing emails used 'marketo.com' links to track user interactions, every hyperlink, image, and form in millions of customer emails suddenly died. The company's main website disappeared, so customers could not log in to their accounts.
The American football team Dallas Cowboys forgot to renew their domain name, and their domain went back on sale, causing them to lose their website for a while.
"The best crisis management is not to give the right reaction to crises, but not to create crises" is a sentence whose importance we are seeing once again through experience. Be careful!
OFFICIAL STATEMENT HAS ARRIVED
Sahibinden.com included the following statements in a post made via its official Instagram account:
"Due to a technical issue we are experiencing with the firm that provides our domain name service, access to our platform is currently unavailable.
