Can facial structure be an indicator of wealth or poverty?

A study conducted by scientists at the University of Glasgow shows that facial structure can reveal people's wealth or poverty status. It was determined that individuals with narrow faces and lighter skin tones are generally perceived as wealthy. It was stated that indicators of wealth such as arched eyebrows and eyes set closer together are influential in this perception.

The research revealed that people with these features are generally thought to be more trustworthy, approachable, and competent. Conversely, it was stated that individuals with wider and flatter facial features are perceived as poor, and that a cooler skin tone is among the factors determining this situation.

In the study led by Thora Bjornsdottir, it was noted that the participants were white individuals living in Western countries. The researchers emphasized that judging people based solely on facial features shows how stereotypes shape human perception and that these perceptions can lead to negative consequences.

Rachael E. Jack stated that the relationship between certain facial types and stereotypes regarding social class is significant and that she hopes the research results will help reduce prejudices.
