The statement noted that the company's Chief Technology Officer, Mira Murati, has been appointed as interim CEO to replace Altman.
The statement indicated that Altman's departure followed a review process conducted by the board, which concluded that Altman was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering his ability to fulfill his responsibilities.
The statement included the assessment: "The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI."
