Civil engineering education is adapting to Industry 4.0!
The project, launched with the support of the European Union, will align civil engineering education with technologies developing under Industry 4.0.
The kick-off meeting for the project titled “Discover the Know-How of Construction Professionals” (project number 2023-1-TR01-KA220-VET-000150804), carried out within the scope of the European Union Presidency Turkish National Agency Erasmus+ Vocational Education Program 2023 KA220-VET Cooperation Partnerships in Vocational Education, was held in Eskişehir with the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serkan Kıvrak and Aydın Akgün from Eskişehir Technical University Department of Civil Engineering, Prof. Dr. Gökhan Arslan from Istanbul Aydın University Department of Civil Engineering, Prof. Dr. Serdar Ulubeyli and Asst. Prof. Dr. Volkan Arslan from Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, Prof. Dr. İncilay Cangöz from Anadolu University, Dr. Ahmet Çıtıpıtıoğlu from TAV Construction, Dr. Barış Erkuş from Çelik Construction, as well as Vilnius College of Technologies and Design from Lithuania, and Warsaw University of Technology and the Polish Association of Building Managers from Poland.
Project subject: New technologies developing alongside Industry 4.0 have transformed all sectors into a competitive and dynamic structure. The industry now requires more competent engineers. In particular, there is a need for engineers who possess not only technical engineering knowledge but also practical, current, economic, social, and legal knowledge. Civil Engineering is an engineering field where a high level of technical knowledge is taught. Students in this field struggle to learn the practical/tacit/current technical knowledge required by the sector at the desired level. Therefore, it is extremely important for civil engineers to address their deficiencies in this area in line with the needs of the sector.
With this project, the deficiencies experienced in technical education will be addressed. The expertise of experienced engineers who have worked in the sector for years will be recorded. Experienced engineers and young engineers will come together on a platform to be designed within the scope of the project, ensuring the transfer of experience.
