Clean energy solution for global warming

The problem of global warming is among the world's greatest challenges since industrialization. Efforts for zero carbon emissions, which began particularly in the 80s, have made significant progress. However, a new discovery seems set to change everything regarding carbon dioxide emissions.

HOW WILL CARBON DIOXIDE TURN INTO CLEAN ENERGY?

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA has found a way to obtain clean energy from carbon dioxide. In their study, scientists succeeded in converting carbon dioxide gas into a powder that can be stored for many years. What is interesting is that this powder will be converted into fuel cells that do not cause carbon emissions.

In their study, scientists first exposed carbon dioxide to catalysts. Afterward, they turned the carbon dioxide into powder through electrolysis, creating sodium formate. This powder, called sodium formate, has a structure that can be stored for decades. But how will this powder turn into clean energy?

FIRST TRIALS TO BEGIN

MIT researchers are looking to replace batteries with this powder that can be stored for decades. The researchers also made the powder capable of storing electricity. In this sense, the first trials conducted revealed that this powder could be used for electricity storage.

The fact that the powder can be stored for decades without degrading is a significant advantage. The most important advantage of the powder is that there is no emission polluting the atmosphere when the stored electricity is used. For now, the research team has turned the power stored in this powder into a liquid and designed a fuel cell. The research team planned to use the refrigerator-sized fuel cell to generate electricity in homes. The fact that this powder is easy and cheap to obtain is its most important advantage. At the same time, scientists aim to reduce carbon emissions in this way.

The team has also begun research on how this product will be used in heavy industry. For now, the research team is also holding talks for the powder that provides zero carbon emissions to become a commercial product.

In fact, humanity has been pursuing ways to make carbon dioxide harmless for about a hundred years. Today, coal is still an important energy source both in Turkey and around the world. However, despite all filtering efforts, coal has negative effects on both the environment and the air. In this sense, coal power plants have a significant share in carbon emissions.

Do you think this new sodium formate powder could lead to a major revolution for zero carbon emissions and global warming? We look forward to your comments.
