Date set for Turkey's first space traveler's mission

In its statement, the TUA said, "How ready are we for the excitement? The countdown has begun for Turkey's first human space mission. Our astronaut Alper Gezeravcı and the crew members of the AX-3 mission have successfully completed their SpaceX Dragon spacecraft training."

Gezeravcı, who will travel to the International Space Station, began his training in Houston, Texas, in the United States in April. Gezeravcı is scheduled to be sent to space on January 17, 2024.

13 DIFFERENT EXPERIMENTS

As part of Turkey's First Human Space Mission, Alper Gezeravcı will stay at the ISS for 14 days following the launch in January and will conduct 13 different scientific experiments.

The first Turkish astronaut, Gezeravcı, will serve on the mission alongside Spanish, Italian, and Swedish astronauts.

Minister of Industry and Technology Kacır had announced that one of the experiments, which will take place in fields such as biology, medicine, materials science, and genetics, was prepared by students at the Muş Science and Art Center.

ABOUT THE JOURNEY

Ax-3 is redefining the path to low Earth orbit for countries around the world. The Ax-3 crew consists of mission leader Michael López-Alegría representing the US and Spain, Alper Gezeravcı from Turkey, Pilot Walter Villadei from the Italian Air Force, and Marcus Wandt from Sweden, participating on behalf of the European Space Agency.

The flight, which is expected to last approximately 14 days, will be carried out by Axiom Space using a Crew Dragon spacecraft.

The spacecraft will launch from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. From there, it will fly to the International Space Station. When the mission is complete, it will splash down in the ocean.
