The New York Times, one of the leading newspapers in the U.S., filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft on December 27, 2023, alleging unauthorized use of artificial intelligence technologies and copyright infringement.
The newspaper claimed that OpenAI trained chatbots that compete with news organizations by using millions of its published articles without permission.
This makes The New York Times the first major media organization to sue the developers of ChatGPT and other popular artificial intelligence platforms over copyright issues related to its written works.
