Discord confirms user data breach

The popular social media platform Discord has announced that, as a result of a data breach that occurred last week, the official identification photos of approximately 70,000 users may have been exposed. This situation emerged within the scope of a customer service data breach.

Discord spokesperson Nu Wexler stated in comments to The Verge that some information circulating on social media is incorrect and that this situation is linked to an attempt to extort a ransom from the platform. Wexler said, "We have determined that for approximately 70,000 users among the affected accounts worldwide, official identification photos used by our third-party provider to review age verification requests may have been exposed."

Stating that the affected users have been contacted, Wexler noted that they are cooperating with law enforcement, data protection authorities, and external security experts following the incident. Furthermore, he announced that the affected systems have been secured and that the partnership with the third-party firm in question has been terminated.

In a previous announcement on October 3, Discord had stated that information such as usernames, email addresses, the last four digits of credit cards, and IP addresses might also have been affected by the leak.
