Domestic smartphone from Aselsan and Türk Telekom: Production in Malatya, sales target 2027

Malatya has been designated as the production site for the new domestic smartphone project developed in collaboration between Aselsan and Türk Telekom. The project, coordinated by TTT İnovasyon, aims to bring the device to users in the first half of 2027.

Under the project, Aselsan will undertake the hardware and production processes of the phone. Türk Telekom will be responsible for software, marketing, distribution, and brand strategies. The device is planned to be positioned to appeal to premium, high-end, and mid-range users.

MALATYA WILL BE THE PRODUCTION HUB

The phone, which will be produced in Malatya, is expected to stand out with battery and camera technologies developed by domestic engineers. According to information provided by Türk Telekom CEO Ebubekir Şahin, the device will initially be launched with the Android operating system.

According to the announced roadmap, the goal is to increase the localization rate in subsequent phases. Following the initial sales period, it is planned to transition to domestic operating system and domestic chip stages at one-year intervals.

ASELSAN'S SECOND PHONE MOVE

Aselsan's history in the mobile phone field dates back to the 1990s. With the "Aselsan 1919" model it produced in 1997, the company had placed Turkey among the countries producing mobile phones at that time. The new project stands out as the company's second major move toward the mobile device market following that history.

Work on the brand identity for the project is also ongoing. It is stated that five different name suggestions prepared for the phone will be presented to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the official name will be finalized after this evaluation.
