Dr. Aydan Bulut Karslıoğlu receives the 2024 Sabri Ülker Science Award

The Sabri Ülker Science Award, presented by the Sabri Ülker Foundation since 2016, has been awarded this year to Dr. Aydan Bulut Karslıoğlu. Dr. Karslıoğlu, who was deemed worthy of the award for her pioneering research in stem cell biology and embryonic development, leads the Stem Cell Chromatin Group at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin. The award was given to recognize Karslıoğlu’s innovative work on embryonic development and diapause mechanisms.

At the ceremony, Yıldız Holding Chairman of the Board Ali Ülker emphasized that the discoveries of scientists are a significant factor shaping the future of humanity. Hotamışlıgil stated, “This award shows how valuable the work carried out by young scientists with perseverance and determination is.” He further noted that Dr. Karslıoğlu’s research makes significant contributions to both the scientific world and public health.

Dr. Karslıoğlu expressed that this award, given for her work on stem cells and embryonic development, is not only an individual achievement but also a reflection of the contribution science offers to humanity. “Embryonic stem cell research has the potential to break new ground in the treatment of diseases,” she added.

The Sabri Ülker Science Award was presented for the 9th time this year as part of a mission aimed at supporting Turkey’s young scientists and encouraging innovative projects in the field of science. Past winners of the award include names such as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kıvanç Birsoy, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Erbay, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elvan Böke.
