Elon Musk announces: Brain chip implanted in a human for the first time
Elon Musk, founder of the US neurotechnology company Neuralink, announced that a brain chip has been implanted in a human for the first time.
Elon Musk, in a post on his X social media account, stated that an implant was performed on a human by Neuralink for the first time.
Noting that the recovery process is going well, Musk expressed that the initial results are "promising."
FIRST NEURALINK PRODUCT: TELEPATHY
Musk stated that the name of the first Neuralink product is "Telepathy," adding that it enables control of a phone or computer, and through them almost any device, just by thinking.
Noting that the first users will be people who have lost the ability to use their limbs, Musk said, "Imagine if Stephen Hawking could communicate faster than a speed typist or auctioneer. That is the goal."
RECEIVED APPROVAL FOR HUMAN TRIALS LAST YEAR
Neuralink announced in May 2023 that it had received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to begin testing its brain chip project on humans.
It had been noted that the chips, which were previously tested on monkeys, successfully interpreted signals in the brain and transmitted them to devices.
Founded in 2016 by Musk and a group of engineers, Neuralink aims to treat neurological conditions such as paralysis and blindness and to improve the quality of life for disabled individuals through microchips to be implanted in the brain.
