Elon Musk's rival to ChatGPT: Grok to become open source this week!

X platform owner and OpenAI co-founder Elon Musk announced that xAI Grok will be made open source this week, following his lawsuit against the company last week.

Elon Musk, who co-founded OpenAI with Sam Altman about 10 years ago as a counterweight to Google's dominance in the field of artificial intelligence, is now drawing attention with an application that competes with his former company.

Musk, one of the world's leading billionaires, made significant statements regarding his AI startup xAI shortly after filing a lawsuit against OpenAI and complaining that the Microsoft-backed venture had strayed from its open-source roots.

Musk announced that his AI startup xAI will make its ChatGPT-rival chatbot, Grok, open source this week.

According to a report in Habertürk, it was noted that xAI launched Grok last year, equipping it with features such as access to "real-time" information and the ability to counter "politically correct" views. The service is available to customers who pay for X's $16 monthly subscription.

While Musk did not provide detailed information on his plans to make all aspects of the AI application Grok open source, the lawsuit filed late last month alleged that OpenAI, whose technology should be "offered to the public for free," has become closed-source and shifted its focus to maximizing profits for Microsoft.

Musk stated, "To this day, OpenAI's website continues to claim that its charter is to ensure that AGI 'benefits all of humanity.' In reality, however, OpenAI has been transformed into a closed-source, de facto subsidiary of the world's largest technology company, Microsoft."

In a blog post written by the entire OpenAI group, including Greg Brockman, Ilya Sutskever, John Schulman, Sam Altman, Wojciech Zaremba, and OpenAI itself, the Microsoft-backed venture responded to Musk, stating, "Since its inception in 2015, despite a commitment to provide up to $1 billion in funding, it has raised less than $45 million from Musk. The venture also received more than $90 million from other donors to support its research efforts."
