Emirates Airlines prepares for the era of cryptocurrency payments
Emirates has signed a significant preliminary agreement to offer its customers the option to pay with cryptocurrency.
Dubai-based global airline Emirates has taken action to expand its payment options. The company has reached a preliminary agreement with the cryptocurrency platform Crypto.com to add cryptocurrency usage to its payment methods.
Adnan Kazim, Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer of Emirates, stated in his remarks on the matter, "With this collaboration, which we plan to implement next year, we aim to reach a young and tech-savvy customer base that prefers digital currencies." This assessment by Kazim highlights how important the young passenger profile has become for airline companies.
On the other hand, the number of airlines offering the option to pay with cryptocurrency has been increasing in recent years. Air Arabia, another airline operating in the Gulf region and listed on the Dubai Financial Market, announced last May that it would begin accepting AE Coin, a UAE dirham-backed stablecoin, for flight bookings.
Recent developments indicate that the trend toward digitalization in air travel is accelerating. In particular, the fact that the option to pay with cryptocurrency will be offered to consumers demonstrates that innovative steps continue to be taken in the sector.
