Epic CEO Sweeney insults Valve: 'Scumbags'
In an email sent to Steam and Valve boss Gabe Newell, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney insulted the company over Steam's commission rates.
Tim Sweeney sent an email to Gabe Newell in which he insulted Steam and Valve.
Old emails that surfaced during a lawsuit between Valve and Wolfire Games have revealed interesting messages sent by Tim Sweeney to Steam and Valve boss Gabe Newell.
According to a report by Donanımhaber, the documents came to light in a lawsuit filed by Wolfire Games, an independent game studio that alleges Valve controls prices in the PC gaming industry.
Sweeney was bothered by Valve's reduction of its cut from high-revenue games and his growing anger toward Apple. In an email sent to Gabe Newell and Erik Johnson of Valve, Sweeney stated, "Scumbags", adding that the world has special terms for the powerful and mighty, while the 30 percent rate is for the little people.
It is unknown whether this email was seen or answered by Newell, but Valve COO Scott Lynch responded to Sweeney's criticisms.
Lynch's response included the phrase "You mad bro?", a piece of internet humor. Wolfire Games CEO David Rosen, who is pursuing a class-action lawsuit representing game developers against Valve, says his motivation is that players and game developers are being harmed by Valve's behavior. Meanwhile, the crisis between Epic Games and Apple continues.
